  Introduction
  An increasing number of applications require DC/DC
  converters that produce an output that falls somewhere
  within the input voltage range. The problem is that
  conventional buck-boost converter topologies, such as
  SEPIC or boost followed by buck, are complex, inefficient
  and consume a relatively large board area. Linear Technology offers 4-switch-topology buck-boost regulators
  that significantly improve efficiency and save space, but
  a complete regulator design still requires a number of
  external components and meticulous board layout decisions related to electrical and thermal considerations.
  The next clear step to simplify the design is a modular
  approach—a buck-boost regulator system in an IC form
  factor. The LTM4605 and LTM4607 ОјModuleв„ў buck-boost
  regulators take that approach. Each requires only one
  external inductor and a single sensing resistor to produce
  a compact, high performance, high efficiency buck-boost
  regulator with exceptional thermal performance.

  Introduction
  Data loss is a concern in telecom, industrial and
  automotive applications where embedded systems
  depend on a consistent supply of power. Sudden
  power interruptions can corrupt data during read and
  write operations for hard drives and flash memory.
  Often, embedded systems need just 10ms to 50ms
  to backup volatile data to prevent loss.
  Data backup is used in embedded systems for
  maintenance, troubleshooting and repair work. In
  complex industrial metal machining equipment,
  it’s important to store the position and state of
  multiple tools after power disconnect to prevent
  equipment failure when power is later restored.
  These applications require a stable power supply
  and data retention, but unreliable power sources
  make it difficult to accomplish. Long supply lines,

  5V TO 36V One of the most daunting tasks for a
  power supply designer is producing a
  high power density supply where the
  output voltage sits within the input
  voltage range. High power density
  buck-boost converters usually require
  complex and bulky magnetics, run at
  low efficiency, and place high electrical and thermal stresses on devices.
  The LTM4605 and LTM4607 ВµModule
  regulators can cure these buck-boost
  headaches. The secret is in reducing
  the component selection to an inductor, a sense resistor and bulk input
  and output capacitors. The resulting
  solution is as close to a plug-and-play
  buck-boost converter you can get in

  in 15mm Г— 15mm Г— 2.8mm for
  4.5V–36V VIN to 0.8V–34V VOUT
  Linear Technology offers a number of
  high efficiency synchronous 4-switch
  buck-boost DC/DC converter solutions for applications where VOUT falls
  within the range of VIN. The LTM4605,
  LTM4607 and LTM4609 ВµModule
  regulators are nearly self-contained
  buck-boost solutions that share pincompatible 15mm Г— 15mm Г— 2.8mm
  packages. The package includes the
  controller, four power FETs and a
  number of other discrete components.
  Only an external inductor, a sensing
  resistor, a voltage setting resistor and
  a few input and output capacitors are
  needed to complete a high efficiency
  buck-boost converter.
  Table 1 shows the input voltage,
  output voltage and current specifications of these three buck-boost
  ВµModule regulators. The LTM4609
  is the latest addition to this family. …
